Central Hardin Fire Department and Elizabethtown Rescue One responded to an MVA with entrapment at 4:25 p.m. Friday, April 23, 2004.  A RockIt Trucking, Inc. dump truck with a full load of gravel plowed through a guard rail and a twelve-inch thick concrete retaining wall.  The truck collided with the opposite wall before falling into the creek below.  It is believed that the driver lost control of the vehicle after the left front tire blew out.  In the above photo, the front axle, suspension and wheels lay at the point of impact with the bridge.  The Hardin County coroner pronounced the driver, a 36-year-old Elizabethtown resident, dead at the scene. 

The accident occurred near mile marker 99 on Interstate 65.  In February 2002 an identical wreck occurred in this very location when a semi truck driver suffered a heart attack and drove through the guard rail and the retaining wall at the same point. 

Firefighters placed haz-mat pigs across the creek to absorb diesel fuel and hydraulic fluid that leaked from the truck.  Nall's Wrecker Service and Daniel's Wrecker Service worked together to recover the vehicle.  Central Hardin Fire Department cleared the scene at 9 p.m.

Hardin County Ambulance Service, Hardin County Sheriff, Hardin County Emergency Management, Kentucky State Police, Kentucky Motor Vehicle Enforcement, and the State Hwy Department were also at the scene.
