Days Inn Structure Fire

A fire broke out at 11:30 Thursday morning, December 4, 2003, in the ceiling and attic of Days Inn. When Elizabethtown firefighters arrived at the scene, heavy smoke was showing from the roof area. The fire had spread through the attic and down the walls between several rooms. Firefighters from Elizabethtown and Radcliff fire departments battled the two-alarm blaze for almost three hours. Off-duty Elizabethtown firefighters were called in to provide assistance.  Two volunteer departments, Central Hardin and Valley Creek, moved their pumpers to the Elizabethtown Fire Stations on standby, as all of Elizabethtown's units were at the fire scene.  The fire was under control by 14:30, but firefighters remained on the scene until 17:30 to watch the building and ensure that the fire was extinguished. The fire heavily damaged eight rooms that were under renovation.  Hardin County Ambulance Service was also at the scene.  No injuries were reported.
